Ançã Futebol Clube

Ançã is a village all of Portugal knows without knowing: its limestone, soft to the chisel and hard to time, was carved by the Gothic masters into cathedrals and tombs across half the country. Football arrived on 1 May 1941, with a club that began as a bit of everything, theatre, festivals, summer camps and cycling, and became known as Ferryaço, a name that rings of iron and steel in the land of Fapricela, the wire drawing company that has always been its patron. An uninterrupted member of the Coimbra FA, with a spell in the national Third Division between 1976 and 1980, it counts four district titles, from 1975/76 to 2009/10, and the 2010/11 Coimbra FA Cup. In Ançã they carve stone, draw steel and play football, and have done for over eighty years.
