C.D. Monkayo Corazonista

Moncayo Corazonistas grew out of the Colegio Sagrado Corazón Moncayo, an educational project of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, a French congregation that arrived in Zaragoza in 1903, fleeing the anticlericalism of the Third Republic, first settling on Calle Doctor Horno. The building that today houses the Moncayo school was originally commissioned by the Archbishop of Zaragoza, Casimiro Morcillo, as a seminary to train missionaries for Latin America, and it was only later that his successor, Pedro Cantero Cuadrado, decided to hand it over to the Corazonistas to become a school open to the city, with part of it kept as a boarding facility for the children of rural families. The sports club grew naturally around that school community, fielding football and futsal teams across every youth category, from the youngest benjamines to cadetes, competing in Zaragoza's school and federated leagues under the school's colours. It is a classic portrait of grassroots sport tied to religious education in Spain, a tradition that has run through the city for more than a century.
