About the club
FC Poltava were founded on 5 June 2007 at the initiative of the city's then mayor, Andriy Matkovsky, entering the professional leagues directly without ever playing an amateur season. Initially conceived as a feeder for neighbours Vorskla, they kept climbing: Druha Liha champions in 2011/12 and Persha Liha runners-up in 2017/18, winning the play-off to secure the first Ukrainian Premier League promotion in their history. They never got to play there. On 21 June 2018, weeks after the achievement, the club announced its dissolution and vanished at its peak, eleven years old. One of the strangest stories in recent Ukrainian football.
