About the club

Floriana FC were born in 1894 in a town at the gates of Valletta, on a ground inaugurated by Queen Alexandra that had until then served for cricket, and they are, along with St. George's, one of Malta's two oldest clubs. The identity was sealed in 1905: after four friendlies against the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, the Irish regiment stationed in the town, the teams swapped shirts and Floriana adopted the soldiers' green and white forever, earning the nickname Tal-Irish, the Irish. On the pitch, they are the kings of Maltese football: winners of the first league edition in 1909/10 and the country's record champions, as well as the first Maltese club in European competition, in 1962, and the only one to reach the first round proper of the Champions League, in 1993/94. Over 130 years of history and the stars on the chest to prove it.
