Getafe CF

Getafe is the industrial city south of Madrid that lived for decades in the shadow of the capital's giants, and its current club was born in 1983, refounded on the legacy of Club Getafe Deportivo, whose foundations were laid in 1945 in a bar called La Marquesina. History changed scale in 2004: Getafe became the 58th club to reach Spain's Primera División, and what looked like a brief visit turned into an era. There came two consecutive Copa del Rey finals, in 2007 and 2008, both lost but both historic, with the 4-0 comeback against Messi's Barcelona in the 2007 semi-finals as the Coliseum's greatest night, and a 2008 European tie against Bayern Munich that still hurts to retell. A club small in fanbase but great in stubbornness, Getafe celebrated ten consecutive years in the top flight in 2013/14, a feat many of Spain's historic names never managed, and remains the awkward neighbour Madrid never asked for but learned to respect.
