About the club
Maccabi Haifa were born in 1913 in the port city of Haifa, in northern Israel, and took seven decades to win their first championship, in 1983/84. From then on they became unstoppable: title after title until establishing themselves as one of the giants of Israeli football and the first club in the country to reach the Champions League group stage, in 2002/03, when they beat Manchester United 3-0. Rooted in a mixed city, the club made history off the pitch too: they were pioneers in integrating Arab stars, from Zahi Armeli to Mohammad Abu Fani, making Haifa's green one of Israel's most shared shirts. The Greens of Carmel, with a century and a star on the chest.
