About the club
The Sporting Setúbal Supporters' Branch is Núcleo nº 3 of the lion's universe, founded on 1 April 1978 in a bar on Estrada dos Ciprestes, the Bar Azul, by a group of sportinguistas led by José Simões and Agostinho Celestino. The news ran in the Jornal Sporting that March and the launch had the help of Núcleo nº 1, from Almada. Being a Sporting fan in Setúbal, home of Vitória, means professing in a noisy minority: there are thousands of them, and the núcleo has been their home for nearly half a century, hopping from address to address, from the bar to the stationery shop to the Casa do Manel, always with the lion at the door. The núcleos are Sporting's organised diaspora: club members grouped by territory, made official in 1984.
