About the club
Palmeiras were born Palestra Itália, on 26 August 1914, child of São Paulo's Italian community, and were reborn in wartime: forced to change name in 1942, they took the field as Palmeiras and won the title that very afternoon, the Arrancada Heroica. They are Brazil's biggest champions, with twelve Brasileirões, and proudly keep the 1951 Copa Rio, the first club world title they lay claim to. Along the way came the Academy of Ademir da Guia, the Parmalat era of Rivaldo and Edmundo and three Libertadores, 1999 under Felipão and the back to back crowns of 2020 and 2021 under Abel Ferreira, the Portuguese who became an alviverde legend. At the Allianz Parque, the Verdão still measures São Paulo against Corinthians in the country's greatest derby.
