About the club
Puerto Real was born in 1931 inside a night school: its 18 founders were young workers and students of the town's Escuelas Nocturnas del Centro Obrero, who christened the club Juventud Artística Deportiva, a name that lasted until 1948. The town is the only one in Andalusia founded by the Catholic Monarchs, in 1483, hence the Real in the name and the Castellanos nickname, and has lived for generations off the shipyards of the Bay of Cádiz. The verdiblanco club made its career as an eternal tenant of the Tercera División, with more than thirty seasons served, until financial troubles pushed it into borrowed grounds, including El Rosal, the training city of neighbours Cádiz CF. Today it plays in the Primera Andaluza, keeping the hoops safe for better days.
