About the club
Raja was born on 20 March 1949 in Derb Sultan, a working class neighbourhood of Casablanca, under the French protectorate, founded by nationalists who wanted to give the people a club of their own. The name says it all: Raja means hope in Arabic, and the club became the people's club, with the Green Eagles on the chest and one of Africa's most famous ultras curves in the stands.
On the pitch, it is a giant: 13 Moroccan championships, three African Champions Leagues (1989, 1997 and 1999) and the 2013 Club World Cup final in Marrakesh, reached after knocking out Ronaldinho's Atlético Mineiro and lost to Guardiola's Bayern. The derby with Wydad, at the shared Mohammed V, is one of world football's great spectacles.
