About the club
Royal Cercle Sportif Verviétois was born on 1 October 1896 as Verviers Football Club, one of the first clubs to join the Belgian federation, its matricule 8 proving its age. It played for decades as Club Sportif Verviétois, moved temporarily to Dison in a failed merger in 2000, and returned to the city in 2002 as Royal Cercle Sportif Verviétois, based at the Stade de Bielmont. The nickname, Béliers, the Rams, honours the wool industry that built Verviers' fortune, and the colours were always green and white.
The club closed its doors on 25 June 2015, after 102 seasons in Belgian football, a victim of financial difficulties; weeks later a successor youth club, Cercle Sportif Jeunesse Verviétoise, was born.
