About the club
Sporting CP/Tavira was the name of the Clube de Ciclismo de Tavira team between 2016 and 2019, when Sporting returned to cycling after nearly two decades away, through a protocol signed at Tavira's town hall between the Lions, the Algarve club and the municipality. And the partner was no ordinary one: founded on 31 August 1979 by Brito da Mana, CC Tavira is regarded as the world's oldest professional cycling team in continuous activity, and it dominated the Volta a Portugal with four straight wins, David Blanco in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and Ricardo Mestre in 2011.
