About the club
Wolfsburg is the club of the city Volkswagen built: the VfL was born on 12 September 1945, in the town created in 1938 to house the factory's workers, and has never stopped being a company club, with VW as owner and the Volkswagen Arena as home. Green and white has been there from the start, and horizontal hoops draw its most recognisable shirts.
The big history is recent: Bundesliga champions in 2008/09, with Magath on the bench and Grafite and Džeko forming the highest scoring duo the league has ever seen, including Grafite's backheel against Bayern that Germany still replays; the 2015 Cup, with De Bruyne at his peak; and a women's section that is a European power with two Champions League titles.
