About the country

Cyprus plays football on a divided island. Since 1974 the Green Line has cut Nicosia in half and separated two football worlds: in the south, the FIFA recognised Cypriot federation, with Omonia, APOEL and the clubs of exile, like Anorthosis, which swapped Famagusta for Larnaca without ever changing its name; in the north, the KTFF leagues, living outside the official map, with clubs, grounds and titles that only count for those who are there.

The south has surprised Europe before: Anorthosis became the first Cypriot side in a Champions League group stage in 2008 and APOEL reached the quarter finals in 2012.

In this archive, the green and white hoops come from both sides of the Green Line: one island, one pattern, two football worlds.
