About the country
Tunisia has one of Africa's strongest football cultures. The national league kicked off in 1955, before independence itself, and is dominated by the quartet of Espérance de Tunis, Étoile du Sahel, Club Africain and CS Sfaxien, with Espérance stacking continental titles and Club World Cup appearances. The national team, the Eagles of Carthage, won the 2004 AFCON on home soil and are World Cup regulars.
