Umbro had fun with this one: the hoops of the two halves refuse to line up, offset on purpose in a half step that makes the eye stumble, in soft greens with the brand's diamonds taped along the sleeves. On the chest sits the clenched fist of the crest, a symbol the Siwelele recognise from a distance.
Beneath the playful design, the season was anything but. The squad went on strike over unpaid salaries before the campaign even started, the club was up for sale, and Steve Komphela, fresh from Kaizer Chiefs, worked miracles: coach of the month in August and a constant top eight presence. He resigned in late December with a devastating letter, tired of paying out of his own pocket for what was missing, and the club answered from within, caretaker Lehlohonolo Seema holding the team together.
Here at Hoopster it pairs with the 2007/08 shirt: the same club eleven years on, poorer and just as loved.
