About the club
Club Deportivo y Cultural Zafiro Elche is one of this archive's best kept secrets: a grassroots club from the city of Elche of which mostly relics remain, a collector's pin here, a shirt there. The full name says the essential, sporting and cultural, the classic format of Spanish neighbourhood associations that offered a ball, company and belonging at the same door. It played in green and white hoops in the city where green is identity, the Elche of two hundred thousand palm trees and the franjiverdes, and it slipped off the map without leaving a written record. What remains is this, and it is not nothing: a sapphire name, a celebrated city and a shirt that keeps telling its story. If any ilicitano knows more, this door is open.
