Celtic Castilla C.F.

All of hoopster.pt exists because Celtic of Glasgow inspired a pattern that travelled the world, and this club is the most literal proof of that thesis. In 1969, in a still Francoist Madrid, twenty to twenty five boys from the Tetuán neighbourhood, mostly pupils at the Colegio Castilla near Calle Castilla, decided to found a football team with the support of local shopkeepers. The first name chosen was Celta de Castilla, a tribute to Celta de Vigo, with sky blue shirts, but Celtic of Glasgow, freshly crowned European champions in Lisbon in 1967, was then fashionable among kids across Europe, and the name changed to Celtic Castilla, joining the Scottish club to the name of the street where it all began. Half a century later, the club is still alive in Tetuán-Chamberí, one of the oldest in the area, non profit, with a senior team competing in regional categories and a youth academy that has passed 300 players. It is probably the only club in the world whose name was born of the exact same impulse that gave this archive its name.
