About the club

FC Sachsen Leipzig was born on 1 August 1990, with reunification, to carry on one of East German football's mythical names: BSG Chemie Leipzig, GDR champions in 1951 and, above all, in 1964, when the Rest von Leipzig, the leftovers nobody wanted after the best players were concentrated at the rival club, won the title under Alfred Kunze against every prediction. Home was the same as ever, the Leutzsch ground that now bears Kunze's name, with roots reaching back to Britannia Leipzig of 1899.

The second life was poorer than the legend: decades of regional divisions and financial distress until the insolvency that closed the club on 30 June 2011. Leutzsch's green and white outlived it: the fans had already refounded BSG Chemie, which inherited the ground and the tradition.
