Ferro Carril Oeste

Ferro Carril Oeste was born on 28 July 1904, when 95 employees of the Buenos Aires Western Railway gathered in the cargo office to found a club. More than a century later, it still stands in the same place: Caballito, the neighbourhood it has never left. The 1980s were its golden era. With Carlos Timoteo Griguol on the bench and a home-built team, the Verdolaga won the 1982 and 1984 Nacional titles, added two runner-up finishes, reached 50,000 members and was recognised by UNESCO as a model institution. Basketball kept pace with three national league titles. Today Ferro wears green at the Estadio Arquitecto Ricardo Etcheverri and plays in the Primera Nacional, Argentina’s second tier.
