About the club
Panathinaikos were born in 1908 at the hands of Giorgos Kalafatis and adopted in 1918 the symbol that would make them eternal: the green trefoil, suggested by athlete Michalis Papazoglou. The club of all Athens made Leoforos Alexandras its spiritual home and Gate 13, founded in 1966, Greece's oldest supporters' group. The greatest glory came at Wembley: in 1971, with Ferenc Puskás on the bench and the goals of Antonis Antoniadis, the competition's top scorer, Pana became the only Greek club ever to reach a European Cup final, lost to Cruyff's Ajax, and went on to play the Intercontinental Cup. They count twenty championships and twenty Greek Cups, and the derby of the eternal enemies against Olympiacos still splits the country in two.
