About the club
Real Oviedo is one of Spain's most loved and most suffered clubs, founded in 1926 in the Asturian capital and dressed in blue and white for almost its entire life, with this green edition standing as a rare exception to the traditional colours. In 1997/98, the season of this shirt, the club was still competing in the Primera División, though with signs of fragility the league's own statistics recorded: the biggest away defeat suffered anywhere in that season's competition was Oviedo's 5-0 loss at Real Sociedad. A few years later, the club would drop to the Segunda and plunge into a deep financial crisis that by 2012 brought it to the brink of extinction, saved only by a members campaign that brought together anonymous supporters and names like actor Michael Douglas. It is that mix of great history and real suffering that makes Oviedo one of the most beloved clubs outside its own territory, long before the return to the Primera in 2024/25.
