The story
Santos Laguna home shirt for the Invierno 1996, the season of the club’s first ever league title. Green and white hoops in ABA Sport’s tonal jacquard, grey polo collar with green and blue trim, blue placket and the FMF Oficial patch on the sleeve. Corona on the chest, LALA on the back and Victoria on the sleeve: three sponsors from Torreón and the Laguna region, a commercial snapshot of the place.
The detail that sets it apart is the brand. Santos wore ABA Sport through the regular season, then switched to Corona Sport just before the liguilla, on an almost identical design. It was in the new brand that Alfredo Tena’s side, with Jared Borgetti scoring 21 goals, beat Necaxa in the final. This is the shirt of the months in which the title was built, not of the night it was lifted.
