About the club
Rapid were born in 1899 in Hütteldorf, in the working class suburbs of western Vienna, heirs to a workers' club founded two years earlier. They have worn green and white since 1904 and are Austria's record champions with 32 titles, including the very first, in 1911/12. During the Nazi annexation they even won the 1941 German championship, coming back from 0-3 to beat Schalke 4-3 in Berlin. In Europe they reached two Cup Winners' Cup finals, lost to Everton in 1985 and to PSG in 1996. Their trademark lives in the stands: since 1913, supporters have clapped in rhythm through the final fifteen minutes of every match, the Rapidviertelstunde. They play at the Allianz Stadion, built in 2016 on the site of the old Hanappi.
