The story
This is no replica. The Tipico Bundesliga patch on the chest, cashback world above the number, Allianz at the hem and the miniature crests inside the 40 belong to Rapid's matchwear, produced through adidas' miTeam programme. Everything points to a shirt prepared for play in the 2019/20 season.
The 40 belonged to Melih İbrahimoğlu, an academy raised midfielder born in Vienna, who made his first team debut that very season in a 3-3 draw with Hartberg before moving on and representing Turkey at youth level. The campaign, halted by the pandemic and finished behind closed doors, gave Dietmar Kühbauer's Rapid second place behind the inevitable Salzburg and a return to the Champions League qualifiers.
Here at Hoopster it completes a Rapid trio with a charm of its own: the name of the new stadium, Allianz, comes printed on the shirt itself.
