In Puma's second year, gold took over: a golden puma on the chest and two smaller ones on the shoulders, over hoops interrupted by black elements, with PT in red and blue, BES on the back and tmn on the sleeve. The league title slipped away again, with another runners up finish behind Porto, but this was a season of celebrations at the rival's expense: Sporting beat Porto in the August Supertaça and closed the campaign at the Jamor with a 2-0 win in the Taça de Portugal final, decided in extra time by a Rodrigo Tiuí brace, retaining the trophy and reaching a 15th Taça. Along the way came one of the wildest semi finals in the competition's history, a 5-3 win over Benfica at Alvalade. It was also the season Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Alvalade for the first time, now in red, for two Champions League duels with Manchester United in which he scored in both matches. A shirt without a league title, but with two cups lifted against the eternal rival from the north. There are worse ways to finish second.
