Sporting Clube de Portugal 2009/10 Home Shirt

The same 2009/10 Puma, here in the clean version sold at the club shop, without meo or patches, and transformed into something else: a group portrait. The signatures scattered across the hoops belong to that season's squad, some with numbers alongside, freezing a team on the verge of breaking apart. It was the last season of João Moutinho and Miguel Veloso at Alvalade before the summer 2010 departures, the end of the cycle of Academy kids Paulo Bento had brought through to the first team, and Bento himself left in November, replaced by Carlos Carvalhal. Liedson kept scoring, Rui Patrício was making the goal his own, and the final fourth place said little about what that group had been in previous years. That is the charm of signed shirts: they celebrate no trophy, they preserve an entire dressing room on a piece of fabric. This one holds the last portrait of that generation before each went their own way.
