Nineteen years after the shirt of Jardel and Bölöni, this was the one that ended the wait. Macron designed hoops with dissolving edges, crumbling at the margins like television static, and some turned up their noses. That stopped once it became clear what the shirt was dressing: the youngest squad in the league, with Nuno Mendes, Pote, Palhinha and Matheus Nunes around captain Coates, orchestrated by a 36 year old Rúben Amorim almost nobody had believed in a year earlier. Sporting crossed the league season virtually unbeaten, won the Taça da Liga in January and sealed the title on 11 May 2021 at Alvalade, with a Paulinho goal against Boavista, and Pedro Gonçalves finishing as the league's top scorer. Outside, despite the pandemic, Lisbon turned green on a night two generations of Sporting fans had never lived. The 2001/02 shirt had stood as the last championship shirt; this one finally relieved it of the duty. Between the two, nineteen years of waiting, all contained in these blurred hoops.
